Rafael Ortega, the founder of Mudra Handpan, began his musical career at the age of 10 as a drummer and later played various instruments such as guitar, piano and didgeridoo. After five years in music production, he decided to take a break and go traveling. Rafael discovered the handpan during his two-year journey away from Brazil. The instrument fascinated him and rekindled his passion for music. This experience led him to study the making of handpans and develop a deep connection to this unique instrument. Rafael decided to maintain a small production volume to ensure the quality of his instruments and to continue researching improvements. His dedication and research into the handpan was made possible by the support of key figures and his family, to whom he is deeply grateful. The meaning of the word "mudra" is reflected in Rafael's work: it stands for symbolic hand gestures, artistic communication in Indian dance and a spiritual connection. These elements merge in the art of handpan playing, creating new "mudras" for humanity.
