Handpan Ensemble: weekly handpan course for beginners and slightly advanced students
Would you like to play Handpan more regularly?
The weekly course is aimed at beginners and slightly advanced players who want to make music together regularly in a group and develop more confidence, trust and enjoyment in handpan playing.
My goal with the Handpan Ensemble is to offer music lovers the opportunity to explore the world of handpans, to play simple pieces together, to get to know chords, rhythms and melodies and, above all, to develop joy in (free) playing.
We will also combine the handpan with other instruments and get to know the variety of possibilities. Piano, violin, cajon or guitar can be used as accompaniment. In addition, the Sound-Sculpture premises offer three rooms that are available to us. It is possible to divide up group exercises, but also to withdraw to practise on your own.
Course content:
- Introduction to handpans and their playing techniques
- get to know different rhythms
- Using chords and melodies
- Making music together in a group
- Trust in improvisation and your own musical creativity
Course details:
- Start date: 06.02.2024
- Meeting point: Mainz, Sound Sculpture Neutorstraße 10, 55116 Mainz
- Time: every Tuesday, 7 p.m. – 8.30 p.m.
- Course fee: 80€ per month, for ***reduction (contact us)
- Instruments: Please bring your handpan. The course takes place in D minor. If you don’t own an instrument, we can help you get one. A D Moll handpan can be hired on site for a fee.
Participation is only possible after registration. Please state the following when registering:
- Short description of the handpan experience (no prior knowledge required)
- Which scale do you have?
- Do you need help with purchasing a handpan?

Mein Name ist Lisa-Marie und ich spiele seit 3 Jahren Handpan. Als ich mich gefragt hatte, woran es liegt, dass das Instrument manchmal länger nicht gespielt wird, erinnerte ich mich an meine Zeit im Orchester zurück. Seit 20 Jahren spiele ich Violine - ich habe manchmal mehr, mal weniger geübt. Doch was mir am meisten Freude bereitet hatte, war das wöchentliche Musizieren im Orchester. Dies half mir am Ball zu bleiben und mich weiterhin mit dem Instrument zu beschäftigen. Also warum gibt es noch kein Handpan Orchester? Here we go! Lasst uns gemeinsam Musik machen und Spaß haben. Ich freue mich über Deine Teilnahme und gemeinsam eine musikalische Reise zu beginnen.
